Essential oils are extracted from scented plants, blossoms, flowers, fruits, trees, roots, and herbs, usually by steam distillation, or by expression (squeezing or crushing) of fruit rinds, such as from orange, lemon, or grapefruit.
They are highly concentrated. For example it takes 2,500-4,000 kg of rose petals to produce just 1kg of essential oil, and 1.4kg of lavender to produce 15ml of lavender essential oil.
Just one or two drops of essential oil is sufficient to produce significant effect. They are powerful anti-microbial and skin healing agents, they positively influence mood and emotion, and produce beautiful scents and perfumes.
Their therapeutic benefits are manifold. Protective and restorative, they provide wonderful antidotes to the hustle bustle of modern life, with their balancing influence on body, mind, and soul.
